What the Prophet ﷺ used to Say When a Matter Distresses him

Hadith: Arabic Text followed by English Translation.

عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ، قَالَ كَانَ النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم إِذَا كَرَبَهُ أَمْرٌ قَالَ

يَا حَىُّ يَا قَيُّومُ بِرَحْمَتِكَ أَسْتَغِيثُ

رواه الترمذي ٣٥٢٤ وحسنه الألباني في صحيح الترمذي

‘Anas bin Malik said:

“Whenever a matter would distress him, the Prophet (ﷺ) would say:

‘Yā Ḥayyu yā Qayyūm, bi-raḥmatika astaghīth’
(O Living, O Self-Sustaining Sustainer! In Your Mercy do I seek relief).
