Abu Moosa reported that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) used to recite the following du’aa’:

Allaahumma’ghfir li khatee’ati wa jahli wa israafi fi amri wa maa anta a’lam bihi minni. Allaahumma’ghfir li jiddi wa hazli wa khata’i wa ‘amdi wa kullu dhaalika ‘indi. Allaahumma’ghfir li maa qaddamtu wa maa ajjartu wa ma asrartu wa maa a’lamtu wa maa anta a’lam bihi minni. Anta’l-muqaddim wa anta’l-mu’akhkhir wa anta ‘ala kulli shay’in qadeer

( Allaah, forgive me for my sin. My ignorance and my transgression (in keeping my duty to You), and whatever You know about me better than I do. O Allaah, forgive me for sins committed in earnest and in jest, by mistake and deliberately, and I have done all of that. O Allaah, forgive me for what I have done in the past and what I will do in the future, what I have done in secret and what I have done openly, and whatever You know about me better than I do. You are the One Who raises and lowers people’s status, and You are Able to do all things).

Quran

So be patient, [O Muhammad]. Indeed, the promise of Allah is truth. And ask forgiveness for your sin and exalt [Allah] with praise of your Lord in the evening and the morning.

Ghafir 40:55

Hadith: Arabic Text followed by English Translation.

Shaddad bin Aus (May Allah be pleased with him) said: The Prophet (ﷺ) said,

The best supplication for seeking forgiveness (Syed-ul- Istighfar) is to say: ‘

(O Allah! You are my Rubb. There is no true god except You. You have created me, and I am Your slave, and I hold to Your Covenant as far as I can. I seek refuge in You from the evil of what I have done. I acknowledge the favours that You have bestowed upon me, and I confess my sins. Pardon me, for none but You has the power to pardon).’

He who supplicates in these terms during the day with firm belief in it and dies on the same day (before the evening), he will be one of the dwellers of Jannah; and if anyone supplicates in these terms during the night with firm belief in it and dies before the morning, he will be one of the dwellers of Jannah.”

There are many blessings of the month of Ramadan and so we should all hasten in doing good deeds and spreading the khayr. One blessing of Ramadan that we should take advantage of is that the dua of the fasting person is not rejected. Therefore we should spend our time making dua, for the dunya and akhirah, for ourselves and others.

Three Prayers are not Rejected

It was narrated from Anas (may Allaah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:

Three prayers are not rejected: the prayer of a father, the prayer of a fasting person, and the prayer of a traveler.”

Narrated by al-Bayhaqi, 3/345; classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in al-Saheeh

Narrated Abu Sa`id Al-Khudri:

Allah’s Messenger (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him ) said,

“Whenever you hear the Adhan, say what the Mu’adh-dhin is saying”

Sahih Bukhari 611 ‘Umar b. al-Khattab reported:

The Messenger of Allah (Peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:

When the Mu’adhdhin says: Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest, and one of you should make this response: Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest; (and when the Mu’adhdhin) says: I testify that there is no god but Allah, one should respond: I testify that there is no god but Allah, and when he says: I testify that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, one should make a response: I testify that Muhammad is Allah’s Messenger. When he (the Mu’adhdhin) says: Come to prayer, one should make a response: There is no might and no power except with Allah. When he (the Mu’adhdhin) says: Come to salvation, one should respond: There is no might and no power except with Allah, and when he (the Mu’adhdhin) says: Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest, then make a response: Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest. When he (the Mu’adhdhin) says: There is no god but Allah, and he who makes a re- sponse from the heart: There is no god but Allah, he will enter Paradise.

Sahih Muslim 385.

Narrated Ibn `Abbas:

The Prophet (Peace and Blessings of Allah be upon him) said,

“If anyone of you, when having sexual relation with his wife, say:

In the name of Allah. O Allah! Protect us from Satan and prevent Satan from approaching our offspring you are going to give us,’ and if he begets a child (as a result of that relation) Satan will not harm it.”

Bukhari 3271.

Dua upon entering the Mosque
1. Haiwah b. Shuraih reported :

I met ‘Uqbah b. Muslim and said to him: it has been reported to me that someone has narrated to you from the prophet (Peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) that when he entered the mosque, he would say:

I seek refuge in Allah, the Magnificent, and in His noble face, and in his eternal domain, from the accursed Devil.

He asked : is it so much only? I said: Yes. He said: when anyone says so. The devil says: he is protected from me all the day long.

2. Abu Usaid reported that the Messenger of Allah (Peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:

When any one of you enters the mosque, he should say:

” O Allah! open for me the doors of Thy mercy” ;

and when he steps out he should say:

‘O Allah! I beg of Thee Thy Grace.”

(Imam Muslim said: I heard Yahya saying: I transcribed this hadith from the compilation of Sulaiman b. Bilal.

Dua upon Completing udhu

Ashhadu an laa ilaaha ill-Allaah wahdahu laa shareeka lah, wa ashhadu anna Muhammadan ‘abduhu was rasooluhu. Allaahumm aj’alni min al-tawwaabeena waj’alni min al-mutatahhireena, subhaanaka Allaahumma wa bi hamdika, ashhadu an laa ilaaha ill anta, astaghfiruka wa atoobu ilayka

I bear witness that there is no god except Allaah alone, with no partner or associate, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. O Allaah, make me one of those who repent and make me one of those who purify themselves. Glory and praise be to You, O Allaah,  I bear witness that there is no god but You, I seek Your forgiveness and I repent to You.

Dua after leaving the toilet. Memorize, put into practice and share with Family and Friends

Al-Tirmidhi (7) narrated that ‘Aa’ishah said:

When the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) exited the toilet, he used to say Ghufraanaka (Your forgiveness).

The scholars have stated that the reason why one should seek forgiveness when exiting the toilet is that it is for not remembering Allaah whilst one was in the toilet. The Muslim regards that as a shortcoming and makes up for it by asking for forgiveness.
