From Quran

Only those believe in Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.), who, when they are reminded of them fall down prostrate, and glorify the Praises of their Lord, and they are not proud.

Their sides forsake their beds, to invoke their Lord in fear and hope, and they spend (charity in Allah’s Cause) out of what We have bestowed on them.

No person knows what is kept hidden for them of joy as a reward for what they used to do.

Surah As-Sajdah: 15 – 17

[1/10] Qiyaam Layl (Night Prayer) Series

Narrated ‘`Abdullah bin `Amr bin Al-`As:
Allah’s Messenger (pbuh) told me, “The most beloved prayer to Allah is that of Dawud and the most beloved fasts to Allah are those of Dawud. He used to sleep for half of the night and then pray for one third of the night and again sleep for its sixth part and used to fast on alternate days.”

Sahih al-Bukhari, Book 19, Hadith 11

They used to sleep but little of the night,And in the hours before dawn they would ask forgiveness,(Al Quran 51: 17-18)

And  from  [part  of]  the  night,  pray  with  it  as additional[worship] for  you;  it  is expected that  your Lord will  resurrect you to  a praised station.(AL-Quran 17:79)

“Tahajjud” is derived from “Hujud”, meaning sleep. It, literally, signifies giving up of sleep. It is a sunnah prayer that can be performed anytime between Isha and Fajr. For it to be called Tahajjud one has to have a short sleep then wake up for Tahajjud.

Time For Praying Tahajjud

It can be done any time between Isha and Fajr Prayer but it is recommended to pray it between Midnight and Fajr preferably in the last third of the night.Abu Hurairah quoted the Prophet(Peace be Upon him) saying:

“Our Lord descends to the lowest heaven during the last third of the night, inquiring: ‘Who will call on Me so that I may respond to him? Who is asking something of Me so I may give it to him? Who is asking for My forgiveness so I may forgive him?’” (Al-Bukhari)

The Prophet(Peace Be Upon him) used to wake up for Tahjjud on hearing the cock crow as Masruq narrates: (more…)
